Perhaps the words that make us happiest are words of thanks.
A simple phrase like “Thank you” can bring a smile to someone’s face.
And even small moments of gratitude make our own lives happier.
Yes—gratitude is a life that surrenders to God’s will, regardless of our own intentions.
When Scripture tells us to “give thanks in all circumstances,” it does not mean we give thanks because we are happy. Rather, giving thanks is God’s will, and the life that seeks His will is always promised blessing.
We do not give thanks only after checking whether the situation is good. Instead, we trust the God who works all things together for good, and we give thanks in advance—believing that He will take responsibility for our life’s journey.
When we give thanks once, God gives us even more reasons to give thanks.
He delights more in our thanksgiving than in offerings like the sacrifice of an ox. They say that gratitude is the vessel that receives blessing.
Only those who prepare this vessel of gratitude can receive the fruit of God’s blessings. So in this season of thanksgiving, may you prepare a large vessel of gratitude—one you will carry and enjoy throughout your life.
